MIT Partners with Building Impact to Provide Pro-bono Consulting for MIT’s “Leading with Impact” (LWI) Week

This year’s event LWI Week will take place May 13th-18th; a unique week long consulting program led by MIT EMBA students and organized by Building Impact

BOSTON, MA (May 11, 2016)Building Impact, the organization dedicated to strengthening communities around Greater Boston by providing individuals and companies with the knowledge and opportunity to volunteer, donate, and connect in the buildings where they work or live, will partner with MIT’s esteemed EMBA program to launch the second annual “Leading with Impact,” (LWI) week with MIT’s Sloan School of Management. MIT Executive EMBA students will apply their extensive business experience, knowledge, and skills to projects to benefit 16 nonprofit organizations and schools in Greater Boston.

LWI week will launch with a day of service as EMBA students volunteer at local nonprofits and organizations to familiarize themselves with each assigned nonprofit’s mission and values. EMBA students will then congregate together in teams of 8 to consult about issue areas which the designated nonprofit groups wish to address. Examples of prior consultancy projects include donor cultivation systems, applications for data analytics, social media and branding strategies and service expansion initiatives. This year’s nonprofit recipients will include Franciscan Children’s Hospital, Girls’ LEAP, Partners for Youth with Disabilities, Room to Grow and Boston Youth Sanctuary. MIT’s School of Management distinguished Professor of System Dynamics and Organization Studies, Nelson Repenning will evaluate and convene with students to ensure proper plan preparation and implementation for final presentations on May 18th.

“Leading With Impact is such a fantastic opportunity for Building Impact to continue to develop diverse ways in which we connect individuals, and in this case Executive MBA students, to organizations that will benefit from the pro-bono work done over the LWI week for YEARS to come,” said Robert Kordenbrock, Director of Nonprofit Programming and Building Impact lead on the MIT project.

Through this partnership with MIT’s EMBA program, 120 executive professionals and EMBA Students in the program will provide approximately $35,000 in direct pro-bono consultancy per working project. Last year, EMBA students consulted with nonprofits to complete a total of 2,506 hours of pro-bono consulting resulting in $438,725.00 in value to 15 different nonprofits. The value is expected to increase this year as Building Impact’s portfolio of nonprofit partners grows.
